After a little closer exam...I think the grade stands. MS62.
Here is the pic of the coin.

    Enjoy....

Nice work, RickieB ! I'm sure you're proud.

I also agree the grade stands. I wouldn't resubmit that one, though I think it's a nice pickup.

    Nice coin Rickie!!!
I'm not very good at grading and grading gold has always been hard! But this coin sure is NICE!! It doesn't look like there are many marks on the head and face!!

Congrats! I don't know...thats an awfully nice coin for a 62. Gold is so tricky to grade and the graders know that the metal is soft, so sometimes it goes high. I sent in a 1901/0-S expecting EF and got AU-53 from PCGS. My local dealer agreed with the AU grade, but didn't say so in advance because gold is so iffy on the PCGS "mood" scale. If you can stand to gamble, the price difference is high enough to go for it. Just don't yell at me if it comes back as a 61!

    Hello Marine!
Thanks for the reply. Looks like you did keep the spot warm..LOL, but don't you mean "run forever"?
Seem's like everytime we went somewhere we ran until our feet bled!

    I'm curious why it's only a -62.
I can detect some marks in the fields on the obverse, and it looks like some on the cheek.
I'd need a larger image to understand.

But I'd be quite happy with it. Pleasing coin.

    RickieB-
This is buggin' me to death. Could you post a close-up at some point? That sure looks better than a 62 to me, and I wonder why PCGS gave it that grade. Perhaps the marks are a bit bolder than the scan allows. I keep going back to this post and staring at the pic, and I just don't get it. Mint State gradations are so finely cut that arguments can go either way- who hasn't seen a Morgan 64 that should be a 63 and a different 64 that could be a 65? Bottom line for me is that at this point, I say 63. Your next pic could alter my attitude though.
Regarding running in the Corps? Yes we ran. I hated every step of it, too. There are no words to describe what a pack, utility belt, ammo, flak jacket, rifle and helmet feel like at a run, but usually by the 20th step, I was PO'd. Now only several more miles to go...
I am sure you join me in a "hats off" to the young studs out there today. Seriously tough- where in the world did they find them? Mike

    RickieB-
Thanks for the close-up. The ANA grading book says "noticeable detracting contact marks or blemishes" are expected for MS63 for this series coin. Your coin has what I would consider average chatter marks, some areas of the fields are relatively clear, and it has almost flawless rims. Although the contact marks above star 1 are a little deep, in my opinion this coin is not "busy" enough for only a 62. In my opinion it should be a 63. Please note that my opinion is good for nothing (ask my wife) but I think you did well! Should you ever need to part with it, I would ask for a premium price for the present grade. Congratulations- Mike

Nice photo ! Nice coin. :thumb:

I have some experience with both PCGS and NGC on these $10 Libbies. I doubt it would make MS63, but hey - ya never know. Personally, I would not resubmit it.

Thanks everyone....Thanks for the reply's and grade estimates.
This coin is the first in the type set that I am trying to put together.
The reason, well my Son was born in 2002 and I wanted to put a set together 100 years before he was born and of course, the year he was born as well. I have the 2002 proof and Unc Gold sets in all denominations....now the $10...This type set will be no less that MS62 no better than MS63.
This particular year is a low mintage year and rather expensive.
I am happy to say that I got into this coin at $75 over spot! What a deal...huh??

    Regards to all...
