Almost certainly from Thailand. Maybe I can find more...

Yes, it's a Thai 10 Baht coin, most likely from more recently than 2000. I say that because I have a 1901-2000 world catalog here, and I can't find that one.

Oops, wait! Pages clung together. Yes. 10 Baht. From 1996. Catalog number is Y#328.1 or 328.2. Brass center with copper-nickel ring. From the crummy picture in the catalog, yours looks like the 328.1.

They were issued to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the reign of King Rama IX on June 9. No mintage is listed, but it was "a lot".

Amateur sleuthing tip: anytime you see an Asian script that looks odd to the American eye, and the portrait is "that dude with the glasses", think Thailand.

the portrait is "that dude with the glasses",

That could get you a prison sentence in Thailand, they are absurdly touchy about lese majeste(sp?) over there and anything even remotely disrespectful about the King is pounced on.

Tomorrow's headline "Mr Bellman starts war with Thailand by accident"

Trust me, if I am ever "over there", it is an absolute certainty I have been abducted. Whatever the opposite of being "on a bucket list" is, traveling to Thailand is on that for me. I have no desire to set foot in any place that cannot trace its cultural roots to the European Enlightenment of the 18th century. Does that mean I am not a committed multi-culturalist? Yes, that's exactly what it means.
