I was just curious I run across misaligned dies all the time. Am I right in assuming that they carry no other value other than face value. Thanks
That would depend on the amount of misalignment. If the misalignment effects the devices, it would add some value.
Well here's one for example I'm not sure if this is considered misaligned or cud would you mind taking a look at it for me. I've not been able to find anything on this one particular.
So would that add any extra value, or is it just one I should put in a sleeve and save it. And let my grandkids have it at a later date.
Adds minimal value, IMHO. I don't even notice the misalignment on the obverse very much. I do, however, find the reverse to be quite interesting: at least one cud (over last "S" in "STATES" and continuing over "OF"), maybe a 2nd one over the "ED" of "UNITED"? And whatever is going on over "STATE"... reminds me of a die crack, but not knowing that much about these, I assume it is somehow related to the cud(s)? Save it for the grandkids! ;-)
Sounds good I'll do that and let them worry about it when I'm dead and gone. Maybe by that time it'll increase the value to $0.10.
A slight, barely noticeable misalignment will not garner much of a premium but a dramatic one will. Here is an example of a 2000 Virginia quarter, ordinarily worth only its face value, selling for $81. http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNC-2000-P-...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Your coin is interesting because of the cud on reverse.
