How common is doubling on a proof coin? I was thinking machine doubling on the motto, but I'm not sure on the date, especially the 9.
Yours looks a lot like this one. http://varietyvista.com/09b WQ Vol 2/DDO Detail Pages/1964PDDO003.htm
Thanks for another resource to bookmark. I think mine is different from that one. The W on mine looks a lot stronger, and the doubling on the U looks different. The date is completely different.
"How common is doubling on a proof coin?" Can we just say that it's not "uncommon"? Several examples come to mind. 1961 DDR Franklin Half 1971-S DDO FS-103 and FS-106 Eisenhower Dollars. 1971-S DDR FS-801 Eisenhower Dollar
This is not meant to sound condescending if it does. It's a legitimate question. How did you figure it was that doubled die? The description reads, "a light spread on LIBERTY." There isn't even a picture of LIBERTY.
I know there are lots of US coins in the last decade or so. What I don't understand is how? I thought single hubbing was supposed to make that impossible. Obviously not.
I am in the Doubled Die camp, Better photos would help clarify, strait on photos with out the glare would help. Get liberty also. looks like you are using a scope?
I'll see what I can do tomorrow. I posted with two camera's. An Iphone6 and an old 3.1 megapixel set on macro. I can play with the lighting and maybe get some better results,
Unless Liberty is doubled like the one in the link that was posted, it isn't that one. The only doubling mentioned was on Liberty.
I see Jays point of view, Because the written exceeds the visuals. The major, in this case "light spread" happens on LIBERTY, that in my opinion doesn't say that other devices don't have some sort of Doubling or Distortion. Every one of those photos is a die marker of some sort, Here is the lising of different Classes of Doubled Dies,http://www.error-ref.com/doubled-dies/ This one happens to be a Class 2
I've tried for hours to get some better pictures, but this is the best I can do with what I have. Looks like it's time to go shopping. I can't really see anything on Liberty.
This doubled die stuff get way out wack. If you got to get a telescope to see it. I just dont see an interest. Sorry
Here's a photo of a double die Eisenhower (1971-S FS-801) I found a couple of months ago. The double is pretty easily evident here. Sent it to PCGS graded out at PF69CAM, FS-801.
