I've owned one, ever. It was an 1800 in VG, as I recall.

I think there are only a few people here that could afford a complete set in any condition.

Waaay out of my budget, but once you complete the set you'd better post it here so we can all see it!!

A "short" set of 1795-1803 dollars can be completed in circulated grades, but it still would be relatively expensive. I have owned two, a 1798 and 1800, which I no longer own. There was a time when I wanted to collect these, but shifted to early half dollars 1794-95 and 1801-1807 (less 1796-97 small eagles) as they were much less expensive at the time, and proved to be more interesting with three new die marriage discoveries since 2003.

I have 2 flowing hair dollars which don't count I guess, and 1 1799 DBD which had an old cleaning but has retoned fairly well. Still looking for a nice vf small eagle example. A date run of those is well beyond my means in anything past AG!

No, i would certainly include the flowing hair in the series....when i get to it, i will buy a 1795, as the bookends to the series (1794, 1804) i will likely never be able to buy.

The problem for me is that they are so expensive that even if I tried I would wind up with many low grade examples and that's just not so much fun. I have one, a 1799 in vf35 which is quite nice, but I think that's the most available and least expensive of the bunch - certainly of 18th century mintage. To match that quality in earlier years would require paying at least twice what I paid for my or much more in some cases. Just not into it.
