Whizzed. I've been burned long ago by this look. Now as soon as I see it, I know exactly what it is. And this coin is AU. The doctoring hides the wear.

Well, now that you mention it, I did notice what looked like some rub on the obverse, but wasn't sure if it was friction or strike weakness. I tried to see telltale parallel or swirled lines to indicate whizzing, but didn't. Maybe this one wouldn't have fooled me under a good loupe, and maybe it would have, but it certainly fooled me in photos, despite my reservations.

This has been an instructive thread. I wondered where it was going.

I've seen a few whizzed coins in hand, but not many. Fortunately I haven't had any in my collection, to the best of my knowledge (and that of the TPG's).

    whizzed?

commented before I seen the rest of the comments, but I agree with Mike on whizzed. It has that look.

I've always said once you see one in hand, they all look the same and pop out at you.

agree with whizzed. I can see some faint parallel lines. You really have to be able to rotate it under a light, though, to see the faux luster due to whizzing, which won't cartwheel like the real deal.

That's the trouble........I've never seen one in hand. Anybody got a loaner? :)
