@Paddy54 I know you're a collector of rpm's so I tagged you to this post. Variety Vista only has one 1979 D & the notch at bottom left matches the notch on mine but my coin is really filled in, unlike the VV one. (I'll post a pic of the VV rpm in comments) Also I don't have the Die scratches under Liberty. Could I have a different die stage? Or is it an rpm at all? Looks to me like a Die Chip on the Mint Mark (I'm no RPM expert :()

Also.. you have a bit of a Finned Rim. Interesting that you can see it on both the Obverse and Reverse sides.

From your images sort of hard to tell .I would most likely say from your photos a filled mint mark and md. As the doubling looks shelf like squared from the image.
Try a few more shots. Neat looking specimen.

While looking for Die markers I found this on the reverse. The ('doubling'?) fans out & is stronger at 12:00 & less visible at 9:00 & 3:00. I didn't draw the black lines, it may be dirt around the edges.. IMG_4535.JPG IMG_4550.JPG IMG_4519.JPG IMG_4521.JPG IMG_4522.JPG IMG_4527.JPG IMG_4525.JPG IMG_4526.JPG IMG_4536.JPG

Still?? Eehh Paddy I thought for sure this was something since the doubling on reverse didn't look like any of the previous md's I've found. They've all been really flat, this is kinda scooped with a raised edge. Could it be a rotated ..(not sure of correct term here)?

    Great idea Paddy!!
One more thing..if it IS an RPM it's not in the 'book'. Should I send a photo to VV? I never sent him the $8 he asked for in a reply email when he looked at the '72 cent in question...lol.

There was a broken D punch used in 1979. It gives the appearance of an RPM but isn't. Good eye though! You should have no problem finding RPMs! I'll find the reference source backing my claim and link it.

    Edit: Here we are:
