I had a pretty decent collection of Franklin's but they went where my obverse and reverse 20th century type sets went. And I was out on the road when it happened.
Found this out dirt fishing today, hoping it's the "huge o" variety! Also found a 1903 s barber dime last week and will post picks when I can get my wife to take them. (lol) Been on fire the last couple of months. Found three Indian head pennies in the same hole, a couple of barber quarters and a variety of silver dimes (Barber's and Merc's but no Rosie's, weird?).
OMG! I screwed up and cleaned it off with a toothbrush (albeit gently), gonna give it to the coin shop tomorrow to have it slabbed. Almost did it today but they only wanted to insure it for $500.00. I really like the guy there but I don't trust anyone, so I'll demand he insures it for $1000.00 before turning it over. Not about the money (mostly), I just really want the coin back.
Google Liberty Seated quarter 1954 huge O look for Getty Fortin site . I think you'll enjoy the read. Cool facts on value and this one in 2011 only 108 of this date and variety have been certified . 67 pcgs/41 ngc sweet huh?
That insurance is only if PCGS loses or damages it in their custody. It has nothing to do with whether it gets lost in the mail or whether the shop owner is honest or not. That's a personal call. But a $1k coin is not something 99% of dealers will risk their reputation over.
The owner wrote a contract between him and I this morning, taking full responsibility for returning the coin by September latest, and insuring it for $1,000.00. I've been doing business with him for several years and trust his integrity but sometimes he seems kind of nonchalant. (lol) He's not a detectorist, so I don't think he grasps how much meaning this coin holds for me. Plus, he's much younger (late twenties, early thirties), and has a new girlfriend in his life. He's not as focused as I'd like, so I really talked his ear off about how much this coin means to me. Thinking I reached that point just prior to him being offended. The rest is up to God now. (lol)
Strange that he put a clause in it promising return by September. While that is likely, he can't be sure as it's out of his hands until it is graded and returned
Hopefully sooner but I gave him extra time before and I'll do it again, so long as I feel confident he's in control of the situation. Last time he called once or twice to check on the status of a penny he sent in for me. Ended up having to go to their restoration service before they would grade it, so it added about a month to the time.
You stole it at $50. (Lucky I only paid $20 ) High leaves variety is very hard to find. But it gets no love.
I'm dreaming that it's grading at MS65RD and selling for 1000 times what I paid... Looking at Heritage auction photos makes me wonder how anyone could sell this for $90, "Bargain Bin" or not.
