Yes, I know it's pretty beat up from the bad pictures, but I would not expect such an in-demand key date to be listed at $130. Really, exactly how hard has the coin market tanked?

I know that you should never, ever buy a key date raw, especially from pictures like these, but it would seem pretty hard to fake this level of wear.

I don't plan to buy it, but what do you think of it? Is there any chance it could be a real 1877 IHC? The seller has 100% feedback and offers 14-day returns.

Even if real, it's not worth $130. This is more than wear. It's smashed, damaged to the point of having very little value.

To each their own...I personally wouldn't buy any coin no matter what in a condition less than what I would be happy with which would be vf or above. I have passed on several variety coins that were extremely rare due to damage or conditions. I don't understand how something like pictures in the op could add to one's collection .
I would rather use the $130 towards a specimen that would add value ,then rarity at a cost of major damage or condition.

Probably real but impossible to tell with those pics.

It would be worth it to the person who buys it.

No way I would touch this as it would be a damaged Fair or Poor

FR2 in a slab is a >$200 coin. I wouldn't touch this one with stolen money, but in truth the price wasn't an order of magnitude away from reality.

With that much damage? I don't think a service would even put it in a slab, much less grade it.

It appears to have sold, so here's the seller's pictures for posterity's sake in case someone comes across this thread five years from now.

I agree that'd I'd pass, especially since the pictures are poor and you can't really tell what the damage is.... that said, I think I can make out a pretty large gouge on the obverse.

It doesn't appear to be quite round, as if part of it was squished and flattened making it a little oval.

The only value it would have to me would be in a Dansco, and if it's not even round, then it won't fit, so I wouldn't want it.

those pictures, in the holder, are useless.

    That's why I say "in-demand" key date.

If there were less demand these coins would go for less than $50. That's because they aren't rare. However, that is for another thread.

.....and if there was no demand they would go for 1¢.

But only because the government says so.
