A new listing on eBay is a raw contemporary counterfeit - not identified as such. It's clearly been recognized as there are 11 bids in the first half day. But the seller (a coin shop) is clueless.

    Honest price is about $125.

I already own a later die state of this cc (after it shattered). So I'm not going to chase it.

    Do I tell the seller?

I would stay out of it. It would be cool if the coin goes to someone that knows what it is.

I bought mine from a dealer who sold it as a shattered die at a show. When I told him next show he was horrified and offered to make it right. I told him that it was fine, it was worth the money I paid as the cc and it was a wonderful addition to my circulated set.

He was still upset at unknowingly selling a counterfeit. But learned the pickup points!

The beauty of ebay is that you don't really need to attribute everything correctly. Plenty of other people will recognize the correct attribution and bid accordingly. Being a big fan of CCC's I'm curious about the coin in question. Mind posting the link once it's done? :)

I would also say to leave it. Plenty of bidders probably know what it is and will bid it up to the market value.
