And it was all junk except for this one, jingling around with the rest! Cool coin, it has a little purplish tone on the obverse.

Toned gold? I'm in! She selling? (mods, this is not a formal offer, just a question on if it is available).

If the coin is for sale, I will, if it is not, I won't. That's why I wanted to make it clear that was just a question on whether it was even for sale, lol.

No, she wants to honor her great grandfather and frame it in some way. I feel like a superhero since she suggested polishing it and I gave her a polite education.

Frame it in a bezel and gold chain around her neck.

Mounted correctly in a shadow box and the history behind it would be the way for me to go.

I have some bezels (gold and gold plated/filled) that could be worn on a chain. If that's what she is wanting to do let me know and I will mail you one.

Nice find! And I too would think about the necklace for what she wants to do with it.

If you're going to do that, you might as well let her go ahead and polish it too. It'd be ruined either way. Just take longer in the bezel.

I agree wearing it would cause it to eventually be damaged/polished. Putting it in a bezel and placing it somewhere to look at should be ok though, as long as you are careful putting it in the bezel.

If you're not sending it for free, isn't this *also* a solicitation?

Anyway, I like the shadow box idea, if it can be done in a way to preserve the coin. Maybe a rotating mirrored display case?

    It would be free

I've thought about the damage done to a coin by putting it in a bezel...could you put it in a snap-tite and then bezel the snap-tite?

That's a nice coin. Don't subject it to a bezel.

Put it in an Air-Tite, then mount the Air-Tite in a shadow box. If an Air-Tite is too big looking, then use a Kointain. Don't mount it without this kind of protection -- too risky to the coin. One accidental bump and you could end up with a scratch.
