When Elagabalus was killed together with his mother Julia Soaemias in 222 AD,
his nephew Severus Alexander became the new emperor at age 14.

Alexander's mother Julia Mamaea became Augusta and would defacto rule the Roman empire for the next 13 years.
Her list of titles was long, mother of the emperor, the army, the empire, the senate and Mater Universi Generis Humani , mother of the whole human race. pfff

Both were killed when on campaign in Germany by mutinous soldiers in 235 AD,
probably instructed by Maximinus Thrax , the general of the roman legions at the Rhine.
Maximinus became the new emperor , ending the Severan dynasty.

Picked this Julia sestertius up for 25 euro's , bargain me think.

*Please show your Julia Mamaea sestertii , thank you

Nice sestertius. I don't have any of her sestertius, but how about a couple of denarii?

Severus Alexander was Elagabalus's cousin, not nephew, btw.

Very nice coin Andres2, and great history write up, a couple of things I didn't know.
Sorry can't contribute as I don't have any Julia Mamaea coins at present.

I like your new Julian Mamaea, Andres2 - I have 2 very crusty ones, a Venus (like Roman Collector's shown above, but his is much nicer) and a Vesta, I think (I'm not positive about attribution):

Yeah, but you have all that really cool stuff layin' around your house. And, for added convenience, roll of TP. :D

I am so bummed. At the turn of the Millennium, I lived near Isca (Caerleon) in Wales. I hit the museum shop, and ALMOST dropped some major pounds on a full armor regalia (whole kit from Helmet to hob-nob sandals). "Ahhh, I will get it later... maybe piece-by-piece." I did not even get the Officer's Helmet, and I can just KICK myself for not doing it!
