I collect error coins. Recently I received $50 worth of nickels from my local bank. I was really upset to find out they were all 2017P (condition dictated they were rolled from a mint bag - many bag marks). My disgust turned to all smiles when I discovered they all had errors on them. There were two different sets of die breaks/chips on the "o" in Monticello, and all have a die break/chip on the 7 in the date. Looks like the same obverse die was used with two different reverse dies. Or two obverse dies broke in the same spot (unlikely). Nickle Die Chip004.jpg Nickle Die Chip005.jpg Nickle Die Chip003.jpg Nickle Die Chip002.jpg Nickle Die Chip007pg.jpg I hope the pictures are clear enough to see the errors.

All of your pictures look GREAT. I just wish I could take pics of coins and upload them to this site like 99.5% of other people do. Big pics that look like they were blown up like a balloon. I love the close ups. Thanks for posting them.

They are all scans and saved as jpgs. made at 2400 dpi. My camera skills are not as good.

Jersey magic man, thanks for that post. My camera skills are squat also. Maybe I can get my old Lexmark to do that. It won't print and I cannot buy ink locally w/o whoever having to special order it. Ouch to that.

Again, thank and this is putting me to thinking.

10 rolls to get through today.
Have been playing with vinegar and salt.
Dipping and swishing once or twice doesn't look bad.
Fixed a few of my darkest pennies.
Still need the right 85 87 and 89 and a bunch of 09P.
    But getting there.

I have 4 boxes of halves to go through tonight. Waiting for my girlfriend to get home so we can do our boxes together. Can't Wait!

My recent 4 boxes of halves yielded only 1, 90% and 1, 40% plus a few knickknacks... that said I'm satisfied.

I'm so excited to be back in the states. Euros aren't as fun to look through as American coinage!

Me too! But replace Korean won with Euros! Can't wait to get back in the game.

Most would say you are ruining the coins.

Yeah I know. But done correctly it doesn't do anything but remove some patina. Sure I'd prefer to have clean coins with no or very little tone. But it doesn't always work out that way.

Have you checked that SBA to see if it is a wide rim? From the picture it looks like it might be one.

Most would disagree. Do what you want with common-date circulated coins, but please don't do this to anything that might otherwise be worth more than face value.

Do you suppose they could be the same reverse die, with the damage progressing?

All is not lost. In the first new roll I found a naturally beautiful 72P to replace a not naturally one I messed with.
As long as things like that occur I don't need vineger.
