The reverse looks like craters in the field, caused from the desert heat ..

Those dies should have been retired in 1987.

@paddyman98 did you see that I have two different examples of heavy die deterioration. You have seen the coin you just liked before.

I set aside a number of coins with die deterioration back in the 80's. Mostly Nickels and Dimes. Also seemed to be a fair number of minor clashes on cents and dimes during that decade. They are still in 2x2's somewhere in a box.

I'll try to find them and see if anything is interesting. I'm not good at coin photography so I'll avoid the criticism and not post mediocre pics :muted:

I see sand dunes in that. And a water hole. But maybe it's a mirage. And now I'm actually feeling kind of hot. And now that I think of it, thirsty. :)

I looked quick and didn't see any of the very small reed marks. now that I look longer and closer, I can see them. Thanks for pointing me to that link, Rick. I stand corrected.

You are correct too, about the MAD .
It comes automatically, with the collar clash ...

They seem to be showing up a lot around here in Tempe Arizona. Idk but I feel like a bag from the 80s recently got open for the first time and these started popping up everywhere. I found two more that I didn't keep but they were in the early stages of the die deterioration. But they all look so nice, almost AU
