While it seems that dollar coins are still confusing and repulsing cashiers across the US, there is a place where they get good use. A South American friend of mine received a set of Ecuadorian coins from an acquiantance and I noticed in the group was a very well worn SAC, 2000-P. The first highly circulated SAC I´ve ever seen, in fact. In 2000 Ecuador started using the US$, and US coins now circulate along with Ecuadorian equivalents. An interesting irony, thinking back to the days when 8 reale pieces from Peru and Mexico, among other foreign coinage, circulated in the US colonies.
i have said this before about the u.s. bucks and circulation taking place there. if only we could circulate the coins here, where they are minted........sigh. grizz
ecuador has been using the sakie ever since it came out seeing as how they are on the dollar. They've been using the dollar for a while now as their currency base, and we send them millions of the sakies.
I believe I remember reading someplace that the Ecudorian people believe that Sacagawea is a depiction of their native population. One of the reasons they enjoy the coin.
If you purchase some from an Ecuadorian bank or coin dealer, you'll probably own a few. HEEhee! Clinker
