I have recieved a few rolls in the past from the bank that was nothing but wheaties. Most were in the 40s and 50s.

I have a roll of 1958 cents that was opened and re-rolled in 1960 , I have been thinking about opening it up , what should I look for on these coins?

Been a while since I ran a cash register but did on occasion get full rolls of wheats. You just knew a collection got pilfered somewhere but took them.

Occasionally got solid rolls of silver quarters as well but the topper was a lady that spent Morgans for cigarettes.

this weekend the most Ive got were 3 in a roll. does everyone keep every wheet they find? Is it worth keeping bags of wheetpennies from the 40s and 50s?

Sure, they are worth about 3 cents each.

Yea, I keep most of the Wheaties I have. I bought a roll of 50 for 2.50 at a flea market of 50's just to fill a book up, and I have over half left over.

My brother is purchasing some plastic tubes to keep ours in.

I agree. My last box yielded 10 wheats and 10 George VIs, with another 6 QEII's from before 1960, so that works out to a little better than half a cent per roll of pre-1960 coins. Unfortunately, I consider that a good box.

not much any more, however i did just purchase a bag of "unsearched" wheats from my dealer. So far so good a 24-d in ag, a 15-s, a few 10's and an 1893 indian in g. And I've only gone through the first fifty or so.

Best I have found was 15 solid rolls of wheaties in a box. My average over the last 10 boxes has been 9 wheaties per box, but there have been a couple of boxes that I found none in and one I got 36 out of. The oldest was a 1910s. My hit rate on S mint lincolns is actually a little worse that wheaties - 4 per box.

When people say, I purchased these from my dealer, what do they mean?

Do they have someone special that gives them coins? or is it just a specific flea market seller or someone like that.

generally they mean: "I overpaid & want to dump them for a profit".

It means they went to a coin shop and bought them there.

Yeah, I keep every one too. I add them to my hoard, which has rounded 650. I find about 4 wheats per box usually, but I've found as many as 18 and as few as one.

    Quick Question:
If I give the bank teller a dollar, could she give me a roll of pennies? Can I tell her if I want old ones or recent ones?

Yes, but you'll want two rolls of pennies for your dollar.

If you ask nicely, they'll give you older ones. Develop a relationship with the teller, let them know why you want the old ones, and you may be surprised one day when a little old lady empties out her change jar from 50 years ago and the teller holds onto those coins until you come in. That is, if they can expect you dropping by every week or so.
