Purchased a low grade key date 1914 Barber Half Dollar after getting some guidance in the things I should look for from users here. I think I did pretty well, what do you all think? Solid VG8?

Seller's photos - pretty representative of the coin.

Won it from a $0.99 starting eBay auction a couple weeks ago. Final price $151.17 out the door including shipping. Coin was misplaced on eBay in the sense that it was listed in the quarter category despite it really being a half dollar.

Not bad at all.. The most important opinion on it is your own, and it sounds as though you are happy. So nice job!!

You did just fine at that price. A nice honest coin and a slightly better example of a VG-8.

Nice key date. The professionals graded it 8. It's prob correct.
    Good coin. Fair price.
There's almost 4x as many 1909-S VDBs as there are 1914-P Barber halves.
I think your coin can only go up in value.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! Next up will be to learn about G/VG Walking Liberty Halves. I'm trying to assemble an AG/G/VG Half dollar type set of Philadelphia key dates with honest nice looking worn coins with no damage nor eyesore features. 1921 here I come.

That's a very handsome, original-looking key date coin with what I call "The Look". I collected VG-F Barber halves for a little while in a Dansco album.

This was my 1914-P, seen first in the seller's photos (yellow background) then my scans (black background).

If my records are accurate, I paid $172.45 for mine six or seven years ago. I think it had just a little bit more detail than yours (more like VG10, right on the cusp of Fine). But my coin was raw. Considering yours is in PCGS plastic with a CAC bean, I think you did quite well for $151 and change.

For the Walkers, I did F-VF, but only played around with that set for about seven months.

@lordmarcovan That is quite a handsome one as well. Yeah I think 'the look' is basically what I was trying to say with my description. You know 'the look' when you see it. I agree that yours has a little more detail than mine. But a similar look for sure! I'm not talented enough to buy a coin like that raw =p

Walker should be interesting. I like key dates and philadephia coins, so I gotta find a VG ish 1921 walker with 'the look'.
