Here is one much like the OP but with the addition of "INVICTVS" to the obverse legend: IMP C TACITVS INVICTVS PF AVG PROVIDEN DEOR Struck at Serdica (the only mint with this obverse legend) RIC 197, Sear 11796
That is a nice historical type. I like coins with references to particular victories. That one is to a victory in Cilicia, according to Foss in Roman Historical Coins.
This coin is known from two obverse dies. The RIC V temp page describes this coin as sometimes “Medusa-head on cuirass” though I don’t see a Medusa head on any examples. Tacitus A.D. 275- 276 Silvered Antoninianus 21mm 4.0gm IMP C M CL TACITVS P F AVG; radiate and cuirassed bust left. MARTI PACIF; Mars advancing left, holding branch, spear and shield. In ex. Wonderful posts everyone!! My sole example apparently was purchsed decades ago before I sold almost all of my collection...and continues to evade my inept photography skills
Here my two Tacitus antoninians. I bought the first one unclean. When I read on the Internet how hard antoninians are difficult to clean, I paid a man who professionally cleans 4 eur to clean it.
