I appreciate your help on this one; we had a few people come in with a story: "Got it from grave-robber who said he dug it up in Guatemala. Thought it was a marriage ceremonial necklace or belt buckle. " Although this isn't a coin, I was hoping experts with historical knowledge might steer me in the right direction with links or any information you might have about something like this. Any help is greatly appreciated. Edited: read the rules about content
I think the inquiry is honest and is no more smut than a Thasos Stater or brothel token which have both been posted several times. With that said; it definitely looks modern, but I don't think many here specialize in relics. Probably some sort of fertility charm that hangs in a young couple's bedroom.
The look of the object suggests it's not ancient or medieval and should really be posted elsewhere. Looks like some kind of tourist trinket.
You’re right, it’s no joke! It looks like a Diquis culture (700 to 1500 A.D.) pendant from Central America. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diquis Here’s one of a similar appearance but not as risqué
Wow, it sure does. Good call Ray. I hope for the OP's sake that it's original and authentic. Probably better to post it on an artifacts forum.
Ray nailed it already, but will comment. The gold objects of this time and culture are much more refined than what I see in the image. Also looks debased, not good gold content as it should be. Also, the clasp or mount has already been mentioned. I would say its modern, but you should seek expert opinion. Bob Dodge of Artemis Gallery is really good with these.
