So this is in a basement slab. I was able to open it and get photos with out the plastic. I would like to ask your opinions of the grade, and also if you can guess the Slabbers grade. If you think you know the Basement slabber, throw it in there too!
INB MS 70 Slab? My guess is it's an MS 65/66 (I can't tell if it's Full Bands/Torch ....if the bottom band has no separation, then no FB/FT)
I think it might fall into the 66 66+ area. From what I can read of the images, it looks to be pretty clean and mark free on both sides with lots of luster. The strike does not look great, so I would not go FT on it. They eye appeal is a bit lacking with the spotting and mottling all over the surfaces.
I might take another shot of this coin in a little while, I agree it does not make the FB designation, it is also a late die state, the incredible luster is what makes this a gem.
I can't tell if it is FT from those photos or not but I'm guessing it is not. The surfaces look really clean, MS67 quality, but the final grade from either PCGS or NGC would be luster dependent. The luster looks good from the photo but it will need to be blazing to garner MS67. Personally, I think this coin is an MS66+
Thanks for the opinions on the actual grade. @ddddd hit the nail on the head, with slab and only missed one small item on the label. I had an extremely long day yesterday, later this afternoon I will try and get a photo of the entire slab, this might allow others to play, I will try when posting the slab to get some better pics of the luster.
So here it is, THis is a topic that I have seen across the metro area, a couple of consignment stores and2nd hands, feel that there coins are MS70 because they, 1- are a bit older, and refuse to adopt the new system, Or 2- just are ignorant to grading, this coin when trying to get the luster shot instead of the color and in hand photo, showed a couple of obvious marks. the nick on the cheek, and the slight luster break, above the ear, the reverse is virtually mark free.
