The Leu auction resumed today and I have to say it was very enjoyable. There was a good mix of coins, reasonable estimates, and I picked up a number of modest but interesting coins.

The invoice already arrived and it their email was quite clear about methods of payments and fees involved. Payment links were provided. I chose to pay by credit card through an entity I hadn't heard of before (Stripe) and the payment process took only about thirty seconds. I often have trouble using my local bank VISA check card but it went through without a hitch.

I love it when an auction house is so efficient with the invoices and when they provide clear instructions on how to pay (and different fees), and when they include payment links in the email.

They may have had a glitch with their first attempt at closing but other than that, I'm happy to have a new auction house to browse (although Leu isn't really new). Let's hope they are equally efficient at getting the coins in the mail :)

I also like that their platform accepts off-increment bids. Three of my wins were for 1 CHF above the underbidder :D.

  6. I won one lot. Still waiting on the invoice. The platform is clean. Hope it continues to work after that first timezone hiccup. They had a good spread of unusuals you don't see every auction.

Thank you. I appreciate your business. I can make the yacht payment this month. I was getting worried. Thank God I found those Bulgarians to spoof a site for me over the weekend.

OMG, I only bid on THREE lots, and I had been looking for them the past 20plus YEARS! Found them on Leu Auction... I lost them ALL by a bid of just ONE CHF each!

Rats, my life has been shattered by a worse thug than Clio...

I ended up bidding again. I won the 2 coins I really wanted. Originally I had placed bids on many lots but withdrew them following the announcement of a delay. So I ended up bidding extensively in the H.D. Rauch auction - and won every single one of the items I wanted!

I may have done more in Leu's auction but in the couple hours prior to closing, their website slowed down to a crawl and sometimes would freeze. Did anyone else experience that? I plan to pass that feedback onto them given it is their first e-auction.

I bid on just one one, and won it. But really had to stretch!
Now just got to figure out how to pay for it....

I was surprised I won. Got another surprise when I saw that the fees and shipping cost almost as much as my coin.

That is an unfortunate consequence of not winning enough coins or high enough value coins. Shipping as % of payment for coins is higher therefore less efficient... We have all been in that boat.

I'd say it was worth it since it's one I havent seen for sale before but another popped up in another auction and in better condition with the same starting price lol.

That's good to hear. Shipping averages itself out over time. Sometimes you have lots of coins in a shipment, sometimes a few. Swings and roundabouts as they say.

Seriously, if it is, I really want to see it.

For me, there were loads of interesting and fairly affordable coins in this auction. I had a few decent buys. I know some here were upset when the auction got postponed, but if it hadn't been I would have missed it altogether.

This very interesting Hadrian aureus was not sold (lot 970, 4000CHF).
Previously on 7 Dec. 2016 it was also not sold at the LAC auction 58 (estimate 2500GBP).
Why there is no any interest to this coin, is there any concern about authenticity I am not aware of?

I followed the auction on-line and I agree with TIF - no problems, plenty of nice material, and overall reasonable prices.

I was intrigued though by a couple of denarii which reached bids in excess of 1000 and even 2500 francs in spite of low estimates in the region of 50 to 100 francs.
I am sure some of you noticed that as well.

I got my invoice as well via e-mail promptly today, so that was quicker than usual from other auction houses.
Instead of paying via CC/Stripe (2,9%) or PayPal (4 %), I was able to transfer the funds on-line (no extra fees from Leu). Now I just hope that when the package hits german customs I can convince the customs agent that import duty on ancient coins is 7% rather than 19%.
An additional 19% would really ruin the fun.....
