Sorry @Morgandude11 I was not trying to leave you out of the "experts" list I had summoned. I really appreciate your feedback and opinions. I know in the past you and I had butted heads and I think you had possibly blocked me. Consequently, I was not used to seeing you replying to my threads. I am very glad to see you in here and respect your opinions and look forward to future discussions.
It looks much better now. The spots are most likely a result of the previous dip that wasn't rinsed well. Fortunately, they're not in the worst places on the coin.
I cant wait to get parked tonight, so i can look this coin over. If my original notion was correct, we might be looking at a $1000+ coin
21's kill me every time so my opinion is meaningless but I would guess AU As a big Morgan fan, man I wish they just stopped after 1904. It was like seeing Jordan come back to play for the Wizards
I agree with @heavycam.monstervam. Can you imagine how the US Mint would destroy the design by modernizing it? Ughhh.. If you thought spaghetti noodle Washington was bad....
Check this out: 1CZ IV1 - D2a (Die Break AM) (189) I-2 R-5 Reverse D1a - Vertical Die break along die crack down from rim to top of M in AMERICA. Some vertical die file lines at UNITED. Would this be close messydesk ?
Well I'm all ear's.. But in my opinion, I don't see it. A lot of opinions are in the AU range, but I think it's all there in the UNC. I think the spots on the obverse hold it back. The spots look almost like small rusty areas under magnification, which is what made me think environmental damage. I'm only into it for $40.00 so It's certainly not the end of the world to miss on it.
I took a look at that VAM. The die crack is just not correct at the AM. I will try to go over the '21-S again today, see what I can find.
Well, if that coin grades out @ MS65 then a resounding yes. Unfortunately , those spots kill any chance it may have had imo. If you mosey on over to Ebay (if theres any 4 sale there) or maybe Heritage, you might be able to see what im saying . This coin is a huge conditional rarity in gem or better. As such, these coins are given a lot of leeway when being assigned a grade. Seriously, go look at a ms65 21S or 3its cray-cray
Heres a couple ms65 i pulled off ebay. These used to book for $1500, not sure if they dropped in price or what. $800+/- is what the asking price for the majority of the ones i saw on there. Even still, $800 is nothing to balk at . Heres the 1st two slabbed 21S i could find WITH SPOTS. OGH>> These are pretty weak in there own right, but still a squoze sharper than the OP coin. Look at the bottom sets of wreath leaves on the reverse especially
Oh my my, oh hell yes ! The best part is, if u found one of these raw in gem bu, $40 is about as high as a dealer will charge. Unless he is one helluva grader himself, even then you would hafta be familiar w '21 morgans AND be willing to gamble $50+/- in submission fees. I have an idea @jtlee321 , start a go fund me page asking for donations so u can have NCS conserve those spots and for submission $
I went up and down the 21-S listings and came up empty but there's a lot of listings without full coin photos. That die crack from S to O shows up in several listings but nothing matched. As far as the grade I'm leaning towards slider but I've seen worse looking in MS slabs.
