Man, you folks are seeing errors in everything, even plain old circulation wear, now. It's like you're all in search of the Holy Grail, lol. I'm just saying, see the humor we're seeing in it. This is an 89-year-old coin. Heck, I'd hope my cheeks/chin look that good when I'm that old!
One reason is this is NOT the same design and relief we are used to seeing today, so add some wear and it looks considerably different.

Fee, the most important answer you received was from Conder101, a historian of numismatics, is that although the design and striking characteristics have changed over time, in usually very minor ways, but enough that many old and new collectors get confused by the differences, thinking it is an error or variety. Jim, I absolutely disagree. I don't care if the alpha and omega of coins throughout the universe offered advice in this thread, the OP's picture is completely useless. For all anyone knows it is one of the few DD's for that year, maybe she is even seeing it, but, there is no way in blue blazes anyone, including you or Condor, can make any determination beyond it being a circulated 1928D penny.
Neither I nor anyone else should have a problem with you disagreeing with their view, that is what the forum is for. What we can't have though is someone who thinks that their view ( being thought to being the only true view) can be the only one acceptable for consideration. Mike Diamond, a well considered numismatist and author is a member, and often pops in with opinions, and some even argue with him. Disagreement is fine as long as it is not made personally derogatory, then it will be dealt with appropiately.
