Uh...well....I also ran afoul of moderators once. It started with the word 'lackadaisical' (which got me reported). While honest and true in the context of the thread, in this forum I should not have used the word and in the context that I did. BUT, later and fueled by some bourbon I said things I should certainly not have (definitely NOT, especially after I read later posts and got even more riled up). Ive read some of Steves posts where I have scratched my head in wonder, but later decided that he too may have been posting with a little 'encouragement', as it were. I seriously doubt he will be gone for long (unless he said something so serious he cant be back). Only Steve and the moderators really know, but I assume he will be back and posting his esoteric comments.
Oh dear........I've been out of town and just heard the news. I miss the fellow and I think he has done more for the popularity of the 'ancients' forum than any other member here. You scholarly folks give wisdom and knowledge, but Steve lends an air of wit, wisdom, and comedy in my estimation. The ancient forum was a sinking ship before he and his cohorts arrived in this neck of the woods a few years ago. Cheers to the Maple Leaf Bottom avatar, and hopes that it will soon return.........
You guys have it! It is indeed Metapontion. My apologies for not responding back sooner it was one heck of a loooong Friday for me. Great post Doug and I love the early incuse example of yours. I'll take a crack at your trivia as well. It looks like a Chipped Die between 1 and 2 o'clock on the obverse? Hope you guys have fun at the Baltimore show.
Looking forward to the return of Stevex6. => 100% cool dude! (no kidding!) One of the posters who demonstrated what a fun and welcoming group this is. John
Crazy you got reported for 'lackadaisical'. My mother used to use that word all the time to describe me and my approach to school!
lack·a·dai·si·cal [ˌlakəˈdāzək(ə)l] ADJECTIVE lacking enthusiasm and determination; carelessly lazy The word is a good word and used in the right context could not possibly be considered "rule busting". However, it could be used in a context of invective, I can see why it might be censured.
Remember that "reporting" is something any member can do. That is why we have that "Report" link at the bottom of each post. Can and should be used for all kinds of purposes, whether it is an accidental double post or something possibly offensive. Christian
Used in a context of invective, I think even "lackadaisical" is a lot less powerful and dangerous than, oh, say, "you". I wonder if members can get in trouble for making too many frivolous reports? I'm not sure how I'd define "frivolous report", but "they used a big word I don't know" would certainly make the list...
Thanks. The coin does have a raise bump which I guess could have been made b a die fault but that is many times smaller than the major situation going on with the reverse. Evil me was trying to get someone to say it was a Brockage but this is one of those South Italian reverse incuse designs that were made that way intentionally. I also thought someone might say Clashed Die which many people confuse with Brockages. The reverse is strongly double struck. Notice how the dotted border does not line up into one circle. More significantly, the grain ear should have one central rib flanked by a pair of side for a total of three sections. Mine is Double Struck having 4 sections aligned rather well so it is easy to miss. Compare this normal one sold by CNG to mine below it. Comparison makes the situation more obvious.
Wow Doug that might be the most aesthetically pleasing type of double strike you could hope for. It aligns so well it actually looks intentional. These types of trivia posts are fun.
