Appears to just be stained to me..?

 

It's stained ( grease ) that's for sure .

 

Here's some arrows for you old folks .

 

How did a string impart damage into the planchet? Through Washington's skull looks like a crack to me and the rest just looks like staining.

 

String was in the grease and there's more string stamped in the hair too ...

 

I'm going to do a quick dip, then I'll take a full shot of just washington portrait ...

 

Still some grease left .

 

No retained fibers you can see? Interesting you saw that. Eagle eye.

 

Interesting.... I will keep an eye out for that kind of grease stains. Looks slightly mis aligned

 

Just make sure there's a piece of string, in the grease .
