OK, so some firm knew an error coin 2007 D would appear and paid a $10K reward when it showed up. My question is how did they know, and if they knew that much, do they know how many there are yet to appear?

It was probably the one with the Washington quarter obverse. I would buy every one that I could get for 10K, they are easily sold for a huge profit at that level.

I believe pcgs offered $10,000 reward for the first sacagawea dollar with doubled edge lettering. They did not know for sure that there would be one, but were just hoping and speculating so.

Ah yes, sorry. Edge lettering, not doubled edge lettering. Wasn't thinking clearly.

They did pay the $10,000 and as far as I know the one coin is still the only one that has ever shown up. It is or has come up for auction recently.

    Thanks for info!

Thanks to all for the info ( the "what?" comment really hit home). Is that the only 10K reward for this item ever on the table, or are they offering it again- they got a ton of publicity for sure. Thanks again.

I'm sure if you found one, you'd probably do better than $10,000 on an auction site. Depending on condition of course.

That was the only one. They offered the $10K for the first one seen. I believe they also offered lower rewards for the first lettered edge blank planchet and the first plain edged President dollar. Both of those were quickly collected on. The lettered Sac dollar took longer because they were not released for circulation and it didn't show up until latter in the year.

The $10,000 wasn't to buy the coin, but rather to get the opportunity to encapsulate and authenticate it. So the finder got that $10,000 plus the $15,000 (minus the commission) that the coin sold for at auction.

The deal is no longer on the table, as PCGS just wanted the First coin.

They made a similar offer for an edge lettered blank planchet which was eventually claimed.

Welcome to CT. If you have something, we'd need to see it to give you any sort of opinion or advice. Please post some images of both sides and the edge of the coin.

You have one what? A lot of things were discussed in this thread. We need more specifics.
