What do you folks think? Will post the obverse side if a few people think it is worthwhile. First thing that caught my eye when looking closer was the shape over the 'E' in CENT...
I think what I am seeing is rotated 90° counter-clockwise on the reverse side only so that's why I left it in that orientation. Here is a pic of the obverse...somewhat normal compared to the back. Thanks for the reply.
I am not sure what I am seeing,, It looks like it could be heat related though. could have been in a bezel and that is where he tried to braze the coin.
Does the first pic not resemble a dime reverse clash? The torch part I mean? Almost easier to see at a distance.
No.. looks like damage. There is no such thing as a Dime Clash on a Cent. The 2 Dies used were Cent Dies.
Yes, it looks like heat damage to me as well. That puppy was in or near a fire, I'd say, though whether the heat was applied on purpose or by accident is anyone's guess. I don't see the dime details you mention (funny it's the "torch" part, haha), but I suppose it's possible that the coin was in close proximity to a dime when the two got partially fused together by the heat.
