2012 lincoln cent with weird effect on the rim

    Appears as though the copper coating is gone. The rim is raised and present. Is this the zinc I'm seeing? What would cause this? 20170614_070448-1.jpg 20170614_070434-1.jpg

    Yes that's the zinc showing. No way to know what actually caused the damage. We can only guess.

    Yes zinc has a bluish silvery look.

    I agree. PMD. Since the rims are raised if someone were to rub it they would lose the copper. What does the side of the rims look like.

    I found the same exact coin yesterday 2008 identical to that

    The copper coating is still visible from the sides. Only the copper from highest point of the rim is missing.

    Yup than thats definitely PMD. Always good to ask though.
