I admit that I use 2x2s. I also use pvc free flips for lots of my coins and Intercept Shield 2x2s for my ASEs and Lincolns.

PVC Flips are very cheap when bought in bulk...thats what I use...but I have never harmed a coin when I break it out of a carboard crappy...just have to be gentle...so they have never been a problem for me.

heheh. No I wouldn't prefer you to be less honest. The wording of the post I quoted really does make dealers sound like jerks though.

One dealer I"ve seen at coin shows uses the plastic type flips and just writes on them with a felt tip marker. Works for him.

ya its true, dealers like cheap. being a dealer myself and working for one i know how cost can affect the coins. like just the other day i had a thousand WLH a that needed cased and close to ten thousand wheats when you figure that I can get 2x2s for 1.5 cents each vs. air tights for 35 cents each that adds up really fast. you know thats the difference between $200 and $4000. so the price is a big deal. most dealers would rather be able to pass the sayings on to the buyer.

It's a good thing that the screwdriver did not care.

It could have pressed charges and contacted it's attorney !

and as for taking out the staples i use a pocket knife and very carefully wiggle the tip under the prongs of the staple and lift both of them up on each staple then i turn it over and carefully wiggle the tip of the knife under the staple itself and lift up removing each staple individually. it takes a little longer then prying with a screwdriver but it keeps the coin safe

I am telling you guys, use coinedge.

the full coin is visible and safely protected

if you are going to buy a coin you like, why not protect it properly
    -----------------------------------------------------
    I use a different tactic when I buy a coin in a 2x2,
I go after the plastic, not the staples. I carefully puncture the outside plastic around the coin and slip the coin, completely avoiding the staples

"Coins damaged by staples are almost always damaged by the person removing the coin from the holder, which isn't a problem for the dealer."

    Yes...

I do not use 2 X 2's and when I buy a coin in one, I always use a staple remover... very carefully. Even the plastic cello is too thin to protect a coin.

Yes, that is exactly what I am saying.

Yes, for any coin. I always figured that if I wanted it bad enough to have it in my collection then it was worth 40 cents to protect it and keep it just as it was the day I got it.

Yes it's annoying isn't it! .... I have noticed this many times though I don't think, not for certain anyway, that I have received any with scratches that were caused by the staples themselves - it is just so annoying and you have to be careful while you are ruining the packet they are delivered in by wrenching out the dangerous little metallic things that you don't just absent-mindedly run one across the face of the coin...now what is wrong with that messy, sticky cellotape????? at lest it's safe...

They might rock alright but for the prices the companies charge they do also suck a little......

You can buy any size Air-Tite you want for about 40 cents. Now, if you think that is too much - OK.
