I am also a stamp collector specialising in stamps with historic depictions, from medieval tapestries to ancient coins and came across this stamp; what is the coin or medal pictured ?? I have seen the ancient drawing/symbol a few times but had not found any information on it.
Ah, thank you ! Just found more details after the information. Categorised as Crete/Knossos coins with a few variants of Labyrinths on Silver, about 400 to 300 BC. I wonder if anyone in this forum posesses one of those !!
AncientJoe has one in his outstanding Greek collection: http://www.colosseocollection.com/p168103053/h67abd301#h67abd301
Thanks for the compliments! It's a type I wanted for many years as I've always loved labyrinths. There are several other varieties as well which are increasingly difficult (the circular labyrinth in the stamp is exceptionally tough to find). I just visited Knossos for the first time a few weeks ago and was admittedly rather disappointed. Sir Arthur Evans (also a coin collector) substantially "restored" it to fit a narrative of his choosing. Unfortunately it looks very artificial now. But, Crete more than redeemed itself, especially considering the proliferation of Knossos drachms throughout the airport, shops, and on billboards!
