This why I always find myself fingering the coin star any chance I get. It's practically the only place I get silver lately, other than my occasional war nickel in rolls. On the way to work and on my way home. Stop at 3 coin stars sometimes and yes it takes a very long time to find something, only takes 3 minutes to walk in and out. Sometimes I get weird looks. But ima get my silver one way or another anyways. On nom nom silver quarter flipping from my thumb. The only sound that I like to hear hummed
Gotta love them wheaties and the S mint marks . Wish they would bring it back to buisness strike coins for a year or so again
the coin star machine in Hyde Park, NY kicks out silver lots of the time, I have found a few silver dimes within the last 6 months. IMHO.
I go through droughts of a few weeks before silver finds, then they will be found in clumps. Right now I am in a drought, but did find a '42-D wheatie the other day along with the usual modern damaged garbage.
How do you get coins from coinstar? Are they all rejected coins people left behind? If so, I'll have to look when I pass one.
There is a little reject bin that holds whatever the machine spits out. It's right on the front of the machine, so if you look, you can't miss it.
Also. Make good with the circle k /gas station employees (the ones with the automatic coin dispensers). I usually wait till there is no line, ask em to lift up their coin skirt, after asking if they got any half dollar coins. That's how I found this pretty nice 1943 D silver wartime nickel. Always be curious and aware there are other customers. Take about a transactions worth of time looking so you don't piss anyone off or give your idea away to everyone.
Remember, it takes a while. 9 times out of 10 you won't find anything. But I also stop at many locations twice a day sometimes. (I'm also in competition with this other old guy who does the same lol) he and I both check every coin rejection slot (coin star, water dispensers, pay phone booths, soda machines) I'm surprised I haven't broken my finger yet...
Got this yesterday. It's no 1937 quarter. The quarters I have gotten have all been 1964 or 64-D's (so what?). The other coin is just for contrast. 2nd steelie I have gotten out of there. My oldest from there 1930 and 1934.
I have heard that there is a magnate that's built in the machine that picks up steel whatnots. Whenever it gets over full with things the magnate loses some things. I've put some coins into the coin star and never had a steel penny in my pocket but some how ended up with a steel penny in the rejection slot after it got done counting
I'm getting ready to cash in several thousand zinc LMC's. Hopefully they will spit me out something. Maybe I should put a few slugs in there
This is just what I have been told. Idk maybe I am wrong. But idk how i would miss a steel penny lol.
Check out those ears on the reverse. I have found probably 5-6 of those coins in roll searches, coinstar etc over the past few years. Actually neat to find something so unusual.
