Great job with the 12 !!! I'm still in the hunt for a JC portrait since my sole example (of a bust) is this denarius of a posthumous 'Youthful Caesar' and Augustus.
Nice additions, glad the 12 is complete. Vitellius (69 A.D.) AR Denarius O: A VITELLIVS GERMAN IMP TR P, Laureate head right. R: S P Q R / OB / C S in three lines within wreath. Rome Mint, 69 A.D. 3g 18.5mm RIC I 83; RSC 86
12? I see 24. It is unusual to see a set any better matched in condition but I'd have to say it is even more unusual for the best looking coin to be the Vitellius. Well played.
Sort of amusing how the first six Caesars are left-facing, and the second six Caesars are right-facing! Congratulations!
Congratulations @randygeki ! That's an awesome accomplishment! I hope to one day complete the set and find examples close to the condition you've found!
Congrats, that's awesome!! I love the portrait on that Vitellius, almost as much as I love your Claudius!
That was my first thought was well. I also love the the Julius Caesar portrait is from a cut-in-half coin. Very cool set, randy. Congrats!
Thanks all and great coins Mike and Mat! I was very happy to receive the last one needed for my set. I was patient and didn't jump at the first cheap one I saw (a bad habit of mine). I did try and find a decent Alexandrian but none were with in my budget. I got this one at a very fair price I think. The reason for 24 emperors on the last pic is that was just a goal of mine to get all of them, minus the emperors between Commodus and Septimius (for now). It was just a neat coincidence that the first six are all left-facing while the others right. It was hard deciding how to make the set, limited by my budget, for which type of coins to use. Life time denarii for all would be great but a mix of metals with provincials tossed in gives a neat representation of the empire I think. I thought about counting the Nero tetradrachm for Tiberius as well but opted to use the As instead. Hopefully an upgrade for that, and the Caligula with pop up. My favorite of the the first 12 is also the Claudius.
