Opinions on these gold errors?

I am getting another submission together for grading with PCGS. What are your opinions on these coins?

This toned 1905-S/S. Do you have to pay pcgs the error fees to label it as such? WILL they even label it as such?

This appears to be a strike through to me. Agree? Disagree?

Lastly, this coin, which I bought already in this holder. Does PCGS not label these as errors if they are submitted as such? I'm not sure if whoever submitted it did not submit it as an error, thus the body bag, or what. I would love to get it in a holder as an error with a grade.

I don't think PCGS encapsulates laminations they feel would come off in the holder. This doesn't appear to be the case with your 1910, but they may have been overly cautious that day.

The 1905 S/S is iffy. The coin has a number of hits - I'm not sure they would agree that the OMM is present.

I agree that the middle one appears to be a strike through. Nice piece!

My understanding is that yes you have to pay extra for an attribution, for varieties and errors. And they will not attribute all of them, only those they consider to be the major ones.

As for the 2nd coin, I'm thinking lamination (that has fallen off) and not strikethrough.

I emailed Fred from PCGS, and he said it could be that as well. I might send it in and see what I get.

They dont encapsulate lams b/c they think that the ultrasonic waves will peel it off. Then they are forced to pay the owner for "damaging" the coin. Yes varieties and errors attribution costs extra.

I think I have seen NGC grade some... do you know if this is true? If so, I will send my errors to NGC this time.

PCGS will do lams unless they feel the holder would damage the coin.

It depends, if they think it will peel, they wont. But if the lam looks secure or already has peeled off in the past they might. I prefer ANACS for any errors or varieties. Just me. I've seen some people purposely peel off the lamination and grade them in a double holder, they sell for high premiums.

Update: I sent the first in to PCGS... no updates yet. I sent the other 2 to NGC for a few reasons. First (and mostly), PCGS will not grade and holder the lamination, for fear it will break off. Second, NGC is cheaper on errors. Just got notification today they shipped. Took OVER a month, which is pretty darn slow for NGC (but still faster than PCGS, as they were sent in the same day, and they have not shipped yet). I am thrilled with the results!

Did you ask for the 2.5 to be slabbed reverse out or did they just do it?
