This has been kind of a thorn for ever since Coin Talk became popular. Blanchard and Company owns the domain cointalk.com. I can't count how many times I've had people contact me expressing their regret (sometimes not politely) that I've closed down Coin Talk. They look at cointalk.com and assume that I've closed down because they didn't realize the real url is cointalk.org. So, I'd like to buy the domain from them, but since they're a big company and don't reply to me, it might be easier if I had a contact there. If any of you guys are chummy with anyone at Blanchard, especially if it's someone in management, and can make an introduction for me, I'd greatly appreciate it, and especially if it ends up in me getting the domain. I think it would help a lot in keeping members who've slipped away, and remember the name of our website, but don't remember that it's .org not .com. Thanks!
I was going to write that if perhaps if the domain can't be bought, a note can be placed on it routing people to cointalk.org, and you (Peter) could reciprocate... However, I just get an error if I try to load cointalk.com, which I assume is what normally happens; i.e. the domain name is just "parked." Oh, well.
Yea, it's been giving that error for quite a long time. Prior to that, for a few years it just lead to a blank page with Blanchard's logo on top.
Peter, if you dont mind saying. How much would it cost to buy the domain. If you'd rather not say, I understand.
Please let us know when you find out. I would be more than happy to contribute. Alot of guys, myself included, use this great forum religiously and would hate to lose it.
OK, thanks! But, I do hope that it would be a small number, lol. Of course, assuming I can get through to someone there who's in a position to sell it, and assuming they'd want to sell it.
Peter is this the Gold people you are talking about? Why not try writting direct to the Company President and CEO Donald W. Doyle Jr, explain that you have tried going through channels but got nowhere fast & state your case.
My understanding is that domains aren't cheap and many people buy them just to get the hits due to errors ~ I'd venture it's already been purchased if they aren't responding. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=active&rls=com.microsoft%3A*%3AIE-Address&rlz=1I7DKUS&q=domain+auctions
They CAN be $$$ but they don't have to be either---I've paid $25 for domaines....and less. But if you have a good one the price is what they are asking. The one company I co-own has the .net and .org but someone had beat us to buying the .com...when asked the guy wanted over $20k for it!! Speedy
Let me know if you want me to write them a letter from my business. I don't know if a letter from a different name, place, would help or if that would make the price go up. Speedy
