How does one find out a KM number for a newer coin when it's not published in the World Catalog yet? I've tried Numista and Wikipedia's coin catalog.
I'd ask someone at Krause. Dave Harper is at edited These were minted under contract by the British Royal Mint until this year. The 2017 is minted in Warsaw. All 2014 and onward are made of brass plated steel and ARE magnetic.
Why would the Krause number change for 2017? It looks like the same coin they have been minting for a couple decades.
since my 2017 Krause World Coin Catalog just came in the mail last week I am guessing the same type coin/denomination so the KM# is.... Y#276
You still buy the paper copy? Each volume of the paper copy costs the same as online access to the entire catalog. I just subscribe to the online version and then buy used copies after a few years for the extra information they contain. That way, if I have the patience to wait, I can get them for less than $10 each. They only need to be replaced every 5 years or so as the information does not change much.
There was a metal switch at least in 2014. Then a minting location change in 2017. I don't have a 2013 to look at, so I don't know if rates a new number or just a suffix.
Here a German dealer sells the coin and lists it as Schön 282 / KM 276 / Parchimowicz 701. Hope this is accurate and helps. Christian
I buy the 2001-date paper copy every 3 years to see if there are any new coins I do not know about. I paid $35 + 5 shipping. that's cheap.
They're reasonably different looking coins. Should be a whole new number. Edit: correction to the previous statement, they switched over in 2013 but only minted a few.
So then which is the 2013 rarity, the magnetic or the non-magnetic? I think it's the magnetic 2013. Confirmed from Numista, the 2013 magnetic (minted in Wales) is the rarity of the modern series. About 1 in 350 of the date. Both alloys were minted in both 2013 and 2014, but the magnetics have a new "date side" design, hence the need for a whole new catalog number.
You are correct, the magnetic was the low mintage of only 1 million compared to over 300 million the next year.
If they haven't assigned a KM#, they need a little prompting. In late 2015 and again in early 2016 I enquired about the 2014 Kennedy Anniversary (US) coins. It wasn't clear what they would assign as these were a 'return' to the older design, different metals, different finishes. I tried using email and the web site form a couple times. Crickets. I pulled on some connections and obtained the email address of the (then new) editor and sent a personal request. It took about 30 days. So I would try contacting them.
