Ok gang... Curiosity got the best of me. I bought the software to help me out and to play around with. I am pretty puter stoopid, have a vista system, and this was what I chose. Arizona Jack - I'm curious how easy you find Coin Manage to be now that you've had it a couple of days? jGrinz - may I ask what kind of issues you had with Coin Manage that made you contact support? Thanks, TJ
I too am a computer nobody. But with Excel I've found that many, many people do know how to use it so I just keep asking, asking and asking. If you know a secretary or two, they are the ones that answer most of my questions and I think they like the fact that they can show off how much they know and how little I know.

Coin Elite I bought Coin Elite, and it isn't nearly as easy to use as advertised. I'm very computer savvy too, but maybe too savvy! I keep trying to use it like some Microsoft programs, though it seems more like an Apple product to me. Anyone else have any experience with it. Maybe it's just too time consuming for me to learn as quickly as I had hoped.
I develop software. I tried Carlisle Development's produt and it was just sooooo awkward to use that it wasn't event funny. I was in the midst of writing my own, when I found Coin Manage mentioned on another forum somewhere. I gave it a try, and WOW! It was very similar to what I had in mind when I was writing my own. Its very intuitive and very easy to setup and use. I highly recommend it. Before anyone makes any assumptions, I have absolutely NOTHING to do with the product other than having purchased it and use it, so there is no ulterior motive to my recommendation,
I used Coin Elite for many years, never saw a more user friendly program. What are you having a problem with ?
I have been using Coinmanage. Its not a bad program but does lack in several areas. One being able to separate sets. ie.. I have two sets of Peace Dollars, I had to create a new collection and move the data manually from one to the other. Another Flaw as I see it. There are alot of duplicates in the stock add coins list, I have went in and cleaned up the data so that mintages, dates etc are all correct. Each time I have updated it has put that information all back in so I have stopped renewing and updating. I add coins manually as they come out, which leads me to the next quirk that I have with the software. I have added the Presidential Dollars and they end up at the top of the list instead of being at the bottom where they belong. I have asked for help in the forum and its useless. On a scale of 1-10 I would give this a 5. Just an average software program that does have potential, its just not there. Would I purchase it again knowing what I know now? No.
OK, I was finally able to get it installed. Not lack of anything but time on my part, and I have it on my laptop so I can take it with me to the coffee shop and work on it. 1st thing I did was just look around and kinda see whats there. This is my first software, so I have nothing to compare it to. Seems pretty user friendly, even to a puter stoopid guy like me. I set up my 1st collection per se, " Jacks Slabbed Lincolns ". It allows me to enter the description of the set: 1935-1958 PCGS MS-66 RD, complete business strike set. The 1st 2 coins I grabbed were a 1935 and a 1938-S. I took pictures and entered the images, purchase price, date etc all rather easily. It also has a value sheet and it allows you to enter your own value ( real world rather than " book " ) if you choose, notes, auction #, seller etc. So far, with minimal cussing, nothing thrown, I am pretty happy. I'll take it along tommorow and try to add a cpl more to the set, as well as set up a " store inventory " thingy, which will be in constant change as bought and sold coins are entered. I've been trying out Coin Manage for about a month now, trial version. As stated above it does have some good flexibility when creating sets for countries or varieties not already in the library, once you pass the learning curve of how to edit the folders. And it has a great deal of space to input whatever additional info you want.
For whatever it's worth, I have Coin Manage too. I like it. But as others have said, I have not used any other coin software. As someone else has said too - I too have written software for my company(ies). And I must admit, Coin Manage is really pretty much what I would write if I were doing it myself. Of course, all of this requires time. If you want a complete library of your coins, you need to photograph/scan EACH one of them, give a description, source, original cost, etc. None of this is the software's fault, but I think a lot of people forget about how much work it actually is. Kind of like setting up a detailed monthly budget plan that you monitor month after month.... (Good luck!!!)
