After a lot of thought

Discussion in 'Paper Money' started by Too Deep Water, Jun 13, 2017.

  1. I have decided to sell the collection that was left over and was wondering what might be the best place.
    Thanks for the help.

It's possible that I'm late to the party, but your question may be too vague for anyone to answer.

    I'm guessing it's paper money...possibly low value...maybe eBay.

After doing a little research I see that your Dad was a member here who had a very nice collection. Hopefully other currency guys chime in and help you get the most you can.

@Too Deep Water Is it possible for you to upload pictures to give us some examples of what you'd like to sell?

If that age listed in the member's profile is correct, I don't think we should push that thought too much as he would still be a minor.

Can you not buy things from a minor? The kid got a lot of stuff from his Dad who was sick (I'm not sure what the outcome was). Give the kid a break.

I would think as long as no one is trying to take advantage of the situation it would be ok right? He is a "long-time member" and if the intention is to sell through PayPal then there has to be adult assistance of some kind. My opinion is if he wants to sell the collection and people who appreciate the story behind it want to buy it then why not. As far as my collection goes, it seems like the best place it could go after me is to people who appreciate it for what it is and recognize the time and effort that went into it. Just my two cents...

I was mostly surprised to see such a young member who has been a member for so long.

I will echo some of the others and ask for a summary of what is included in your fathers collection. Your dad had an extensive collection, but I believe some of his notes have already been dispersed.

Maybe you could start on the For Sale area of Coin Talk, display some or all, and ask for offers.

One thing i would suggest. First you should try to establish some kind of value to the collection. Then try to sort them out as to their value. You might want to take them to one of the larger coin shows and see if any of the auction houses might be interested in some or all of the coins. After that, then you would have some idea of the market value of the group. Terence

everything is in a big shoe box in a safe.
he liked bills from new York cuz of last name starts with a B
there are lots of them most all in plastic sheet wrap
lots of $1 $2 lots of $5 lot with stars o them and some $10, $20 and $50
some coins engraved pictures with note to send to auction when needed.
    too many to take pictures.

I think there are enough honest people here that are willing to help you evaluate what that shoebox has in it and give you fair value. It may be difficult but try splitting it up into smaller groups, such as paper currency, by year, denomination or seal colors and start there. It will help make the task more manageable and help you get an actual fair price for what you have.
