OK, so I'm happy that the poll results are vindicating my "upgrade" from Coin A to Coin B, though I'm also glad that Coin A (which I also loved but let just loose of) has its admirers, too. Both are nice. And maybe I should've kept both, but in the interest of variety in my "Eclectic Box", I felt I didn't need two owl coins.

I think I set the poll so people could change their votes... so now I ask you what would you think if I told you Coin B cost around 2.5 times as much as Coin A?

I just sold Coin A for $190. I told @Aethelred to pay me $175 (which was very close to my cost, and giving him free shipping), but he paid me $190 anyway. I think that's a pretty good price for that coin. And if Aethelred ever tires of it, I'll happily buy it back any time.

Coin B, on the other hand, is costing me $500. That's full retail, from FORVM. So it's not likely going to be any "bargain" in the "flipper's" sense, but I'm not buying it to flip it. I'll be keeping it a while, most likely, unless some other fancy strikes me. (With me, you never know, but I do foresee this one spending at least a few years in my collection. It might one day give way to a nice Athenian owl... who knows.)

So Coin B is presently enjoying a strong lead in the poll, but is it really worth ~$310 more than Coin A? Yes, only I can really answer that question. And the answer is, "yes- to me, I think so", but it's still nice to have confirmation of that in the form of a poll. (Even if it is a silly, unscientific poll with food and nonsense options).

both are nice, and i'd take either one, but B is the what i'd call the "classic owl"..this is the only owl i have in my collection and it ain't even on a coin:woot: articfacts 001.JPG

It's cool-looking... whatever it is. What IS that?

I've got a bunch of non-numismatic owls, too. Inherited my grandmother's collection of figurines and plates, and though some have been lost to attrition (broken), I've also added more, and have passed that collection on to my daughter. She doesn't care about coin collecting, but does like the owl collection.

I cast my vote for the food, I could really go for a nice liverwurst sandwich right about now..... aaahhhh, just kidding.

But as for the coins I'm leaning towards option A, as alde pointed out already I have never seen that owl design. Makes for an interesting piece, kinda like an unused Eagle reverse on a US pattern piece.

    ROFL @Deacon Ray :p

I still say the owl looks like a winged bullfrog on Coin A.

@Johndoe2000$ is right about the owl on Coin B looking a bit startled.

There's one detail on Coin B's obverse that cinched it for me, though. Check out Athena's headdress.

I'm impressed, Bing. For an old, dead 1940s crooner, you're surprisingly hip.

Well, you'd have been hip up to the 1980s, anyway. ;)

Right at the beginning of the song:

"You consider me the young apprentice
Caught between the Scylla and Charibdes
Hypnotized by you if I should linger
Staring at the ring around your finger"

I always liked that video, with all the candles. Simple, but effective. Very artistic.

1980"s? Really. I think the last I was considered hip was in the 1960's. Remember, I have two sons who were born in the 70s. I was forced to listen to their music ad nauseam
