Sorry guys but none of the above photos match the big one. here are the hi res photos of my discovery coin. The first coin definitely shows machine doubling. Richard
Originally I thought late, but, if so, lots of metal got removed from the die face and enough that several spots would be easily verified with basic inspection tools if good pix didn't supply enough to determine, and IF, somebody wanted to get that jiggy with it. All I'd need is a good ~10MP image of it and the attributation coin. My guess is the second part of that likely won't ever be an option. The one thing about the window native viewer/editor is that when rotating in the cropping section, it helix's the image closer to the viewer with more rotation reducing the area able to be saved. Somebody told me there was a fix for that with a couple registry tweaks. This took less than a minute.
I just ripped the lens covers off the phone since it was all scratched. These pics should help a lot.
I just don't see the DDR. The doubling doesn't stay consistent with a Doubled die. The pictures just aren't clear enough to give the designation. The leg of the R is skinny, I do see an extremely over used die. If there was a close up of the Erica, and Lincoln in the memorial rev. also the die scratch coming from the I in Liberty. I could be swayed in the other direction.
when you look at the word "UNITED" you will notice that the doubling makes the top image of the letter look thinner than normal. this wouldn't happen in real doubling. this is a sure indicator of machine doubling
Gotcha. I stopped saying it was when posted. I had no clue. I can call my bank account full all day long but...
You didn't know I've found every major doubled die in 6 months that people search 20 years for and don't find. Learning the hard way. Cartwheels through the
I feel pretty confident that this popping out of the roll came from the dryer not the mint. Didn't know if it was worth starting new thread. What you think?
Coin chat can really kill a buzz huh. Really nice try though. I don't even ask coin chat about my finds. Just put them away and think i have something special. Cheech. I once tossed a 1994 reverse that had all thoses lines in the last two columns. Was affraid to ask about it. Point being. Your on the right path.
So is there a difference in machine doubling and a doubled die? what the HECK? im pretty sure i threw out a machine doubling coin because i didnt know that was actually a mint error that was good. i always thought machine doubling wasnt very great to have...
Are you bwing sarcastic are being serious? I really don't know. It says well known member. I know machine doubling is not a doubled die and does not add a premium.
I read something wrong. I saw someone refer to machine doubling as "the big one" and it really confused me till I read it again
I think my post might have been a little unclear. the photos i posted are of the 1982 small date zinc ddr-001 that is also featured as my avatar. when I referred to the first photo I was talking about the OP's coin
