Going through a junk bin, I picked up something that seems to be a common token but a rare date. I found a page that lists this token with 1814 date, and it appears to have a truncated entry for 1838, but I have no idea about pricing. http://www.coinsandcanada.com/token...?title=trade-&-navigation-1-penny-1814&id=176 Is the 1838 rare enough to be worth keeping (even in this beat-to-heck shape) or is it just junk?
It very well might have been dug. When I get to 179 years old, I can only hope to be in as good of shape.
The only dates for this type according to Charleton - Canadian Colonial Tokens are 1813 and 1814. This type is a slightly better variety, but due to the condition, there is no way on God's green earth that you will be able to accurately attribute it. The most common type is NS-20A1, 1813 with a high period. The better types are only listed for 7x-10x the common Bank of Upper Canada issues. Sorry, but probably onlyworth what you paid. NS-20A1 is only 3x a common token
