OK, this error note isn't exactly earth shattering, but it is very interesting. There appears to be a piece of red foreign matter actually embedded in the paper. I can see it's red where it actually protrudes from the paper. The ink from one of the serial number digits is actually printed over part of it. Any thoughts on what premium this note might have (if any). This note is in VF to XF condition.
Here's a closeup of the reverse. It's much easier to see it on the stereoscope, but I think it's still visible in the scan (if you squint).
I am inclined to think the same here on this! It is embedded into the paper. Most security threads can be removed if done carefully. I like the note it is from New York.... Using a very sharp tipped exacto, try to remove it "if you do not want to keep the note"! If you do want to keep it, take it to a 100x microscope and inspect it. You can always submit it to a Grading company for analysis... Or you can send it to me... RickieB
The scans don't show you what I can see with a 40X stereo scope. the foriegn matter is thicker than the paper itself and protrudes where you see the red above the 6. I tried to show the scan of the reverse where it affects the design, but alas, my scanner only goes up to 1200 resolution. I don't need an exacto knife to get it out (if I wanted to) as it's thick enougth that I could get it out with my fingernail (again, I don't plan on removing it). One possibility is that it is a piece of undigested wood. I'm not familiar with the color of cotton stalk, but that's another possiblity. I'll try to get access to a 4800 scanner, but keeping the image under 100kb will be a tough sell.
