Genghis Khan - AE Jital. Ghazna mint, Khwarezm Empire, Northern Afghanistan before it's destruction by his Mongol Horde. AD1206-1227. Name of Caliph al-Nasir, title of Genghis Khan as "Adl Khaqan al-Azam" (coin of the great Khan). Album 1969, Tye 329. Rare in full and centered condition. Silver washed.

The great Khan requires little introduction. However the Khwarezm empire is worth mentioning due to their arrogance bringing about their total annihilation. When the Caliph decided to execute the ambassadors of the Khan, Genghis Khan himself led an expedition to wipe out the Khwarizm Empire which dominated central Asia and Transoxania. The Caliph became a puppet vassal of the Khan before the entire empire was annexed into the horde.

I have one of these, it seems to have decent silver content compared to most I've seen. At least so I thought, but perhaps it just has more silver wash intact? (I didn't know these were issued with a silver wash.)

Also this broad qarari dirham issued by the Khwarezmshah (Muhammad II) in Tirmidh just before the end... or (to my mind) perhaps after the end, given the presence of the bow, a Mongol symbol...

At best I think they were billon. There is also a silver dirham that is issued in Genghis Khan's name. Same design only having his name instead of just title. Those fetch a hefty premium

I don't have any of these really cool coins, I just wanted to add a "fun" fact about Genghis Kahn. He killed so many people that studies suggest he reduced our earth's carbon footprint by killing the 40 million people (about 10% of our earth's population at that time). Some refer to him as Genghis the Green.

His rule was a very dark time in our history, but an important one to remember as we have learned a lot from studying it.

To be fair to the guy most of the killing were done my his ancestors.. but nonetheless you can say he started the trend...

..perhaps you mean his descendants and he also is the ancestor to about 1/3, if not more of the population of the landmass surrounding the central steps.

Ditto. It was just an hilarious comment from you, as many folks' perspective on Ancient Chinese is as you stated:
Being that you specialize in Ancient Chinese coinage. :)
