We stayed in an apartment in the lovely old Treasury building in the heart of the CBD, which was compact, neat, and laid-back. Central Market was practically at our doorstep, and my wife was really enamoured with one particular cake shop there. It's a great city, and I just regret not having had the time to visit McLaren Vale, Clare, Glenelg, Henley beach etc etc. There'll always be next time!

    Wow,

What a warm welcome, thank you so much for your kind words!

To responsd some of your questions / comments, in no particular order:

    1. I am from Adelaide, which is in South Australia. Total population of our state is circa 1.6m. It is not very populous compared to other capital cities such as Sydney and Melbourne but punches well above its weight. We have one of the best wine regions in the world, the Barossa Valley. We produce one of the most well knowna red wines in the world (Penfold's Grange). We have generated lots of great talent, including Howard Florey (Nobel Prize for development Penicillin, estimated to have saved over 200m lives worldwide), Anthony LaPaglia (actor), Teresa Palmer (actor), Lleyton Hewitt (tennis), Scott Hicks (Movie Director), to mention a few. It must be something in the water - 2 people I went to school with are now reasonably well known Hollywood directors. One of them launched Teresa Palmers' career.

For those of you who have visited, thank you for your positive comments. I feel alone when I say we have potential to attract tourism. Its a wonderful city with lots to offer but its people think of our city as the underdog. I feel we almost need to invest in a campaign to make everyone feel great about where they are from and start feeling more positive.

    2. I shot the photo I shared on a white background but I have not perfected it so it comes out pure white. So, I cut and paste the coins onto a pure white background. Aside from that I have a current objective to perform little to no photo editing. This takes more effort upfront with getting the right exposure etc. but I find it rewarding.

    3. I envy those of you that have retired. Well done, you are at that stage of your life where hopefully you are focusing on enjoying things you couldn't when you were working.

    4. Yes, the photo in my avatar is from the Temnos mint. My favourite mint for Alexander tets due to the large flan and fine style. I still own one but but it is in a much lower grade than the one I parted with years ago.

    5. Very nice coins in all the photos above, thank you for sharing!

See you all around on this forum!

    Peter

    Welcome Peter,
Your Temnos Tet avatar looks like one great coin.:) I look forward to CoinTalking with you.

Your Alexander coin has obverse fields that remind me of this coin from Kyme:

Welcome! I too had a posthumous Alexander tetradrachm from Temnos; just like your avatar but not as high grade. Impressively large things those were, eh?

Dug up the pix of my old Temnos tet. It was lower grade than your avatar coin, but I got it for only 150 bucks, back in the 1990s. Which seems great for such a huge, high-relief piece.

I sold it, rebought it, and have since sold it again.

This other posthumous one has also come and gone, leaving me Alexander-less at the moment.

Thank you Doug and good to see you here!

    Thank you everyone else.

    Nice Temnos tetradrachm lordmarcovan.

The more photos I see of Temnos tetradrachms the more I feel 'sellers regret'. But that is the price you pay if you decide to never hold a fixed collection and being open to rotating through all coins via buying, selling, trading etc. I do not even own the first ancient coin I ever bought.

I am amazed by the number of responses to this thread and the overall level of activity on this forum.

I kept wondering why the 'other forums' had become silent and I now why...

    Glad I stopped by.
