    Hi friends,

after I have learned the hard way that there are more forgeries than genuine Sestertii of the rarer Emperors on the market (I had bad experiences with Drusus, Pupienus, Pertinax and Matidia myself lately, eventhough I bought most of those from respected dealers) and on the other hand have enjoyed great help from you guys so far, I would like to ask you what you think of this Pertinax (30 mm / 21,06 gr / 12 h).

It certainly appears to be a terrific coin. I hope those with far greater expertise will determine it's a genuine ancient example. :)

It looks genuine to me, so I would go ahead and pull the trigger. However, I am not an expert in determining what is a forgery and what is not - I'm sure others with more experience will chime in

I would not be confident in my sole ability to determine authenticity, but once that was independently established and confirmed by trustworthy experts, I'd go for it, as I think it quite handsome.

I am reasonably confident in thinking it does not have the look of a Paduan.

Oh- one other minor detail which might mean nothing:

Note on this coin how the left portion of the obverse legends are better struck and more defined than the portion at right: his name. That to me is encouraging, since many fakers wishing to cash in on demand for a scarce emperor (or 16th century artisans creating a "Paduan" copy) would see to it that the name was very prominent, if you know what I mean.

I know nothing for certain- and couldn't vote any option in the poll that fit me- but this is one small detail that stood out for me. I seem to recall another Pertinax bronze posted not long ago where the name was as bold as brass (pun unintended), and while that in itself was evidence of nothing conclusive, it made me wonder. People who counterfeit merchandise are all about the brand names on the label.

Exactly. This poll needed a properly nonsensical food option so I could vote (note guacamole inclusion in my latest poll), or at the very least, an "I don't know".

As an "I don't know" who leans toward liking the coin in the OP, I probably come closest to the last option in this poll, but with an added bit of due caution and uncertainty.

I cast a vote for I don't know, but I wouldn't spend $1000 USD. But, like @lordmarcovan said, add bacon and I'll vote for anything you want.

Add bacon, and give dogs and cats the vote, and I will be elected president of the United States - nay - the World - nay yet - the UNIVERSE, by my large personal constituency alone.

But do not worry. I shall be a wholly benevolent despot.

I think that the OP-coin looks awesome (they always look awesome to me)

Ummm, but I may reconsider hunting coins with "that look that you like" ... it seems to be letting you down a bit too much lately?

Oh => but I know how you feel (you like the looks of 'em => dog will hunt)

... I'm the same way with my favourites (I see a "type" and I want it!!)

Good luck, Julius-G (you seem like a great guy, so I wish nothing but the best for you and your coins)

Good luck! Will be a tough emperor to check off the list.

Besides, "Pertinax" is a cool-sounding name.

'Pertinax' is always my first-choice auction ID. But I've never actually used it, because it's always been taken :-(
