Denarius Maximinus Thrax 235-238

    This came in today. Made 2 pictures , first one with artificial light, second one in daylight,which shows the blue/gold toning rather nice imho.
    What do you think ?

    Really a lovely coin - nice buy. I love the portrait on these. Somebody probably linked this already, but there is a really fine website (augustuscoins.com) describing the portrait types.

    I have 2 of these, only one of the late "Jay Leno Chin" variety - and it has a really big, obvious problem (ah, but it was cheap):

    It's hard to say which image. It seems the second image is slightly out of focus and the first image seems to show more detail. But if the second image is truer to the coin, then of course the second image is the better.

    TIF Always learning.

    I like the daylight picture, except the reverse is a bit out of focus and I bet both sides would look even better tilted slightly towards the light :)

    Z-- wow, that second coin has a giant flan!
