8 bucks 1 MWR and 3 CWR to do tomorrow.
Finished out the dimes with maybe one more update.
Thought on first glance I had a 71D. But looking through the loupe it was 73D. Told the lady at our bank I needed a 2017P dime and nickel. Maybe she will come up with them.
They have a change bucket from at least 20 years.
Wish I could get my grubby hands on it!

Thanks I actually went to the Federal credit Union and bought 40 dollars in mixed change and it's pretty slow going so far. Your right, I went back to the first post and the abbr. became as clear as a bell. Thanks

I've been trying to send pictures but, I'm having problems getting them to go through. What do I do about that?

You can always get a picture the next time you see your nephew. I'd like to see it too.

    Today during my search I found: MWR 1946 and a1948D 7- from the 1960's. 8-1970's. 18-1990's. 35- 2000's. 6- 1980's. Only a few eye catchers

I'm confused. Banks have to do periodic inventories to verify cash on hand. Any change bucket should be getting dumped and counted several times a year.

Here's why I doubt your change bucket (which itself could be 100 years old) has change from 20 years ago - let's say that you are dishonest and take change out of the change bucket. Do you really believe that the bank will give you 20 years to get caught stealing it's cash?

It's more likely that your change bucket isn't exactly as you believe it to be. I'd be interested in any update on your story. Thanks.

It's her and her husbands personal change bucket.
And she's going to try and talk him into going through it.
I mentioned silver and websites about coins.
I'd still like to get my hands on it!

Do any of you notice a better day in the week to hit teller trays. Wednesday seems ok but I wanted other opinions.

Nickels gave an update or three but no fills.
A few state quarters are nice but I don't want them all.
I'm thinking 1999 back to 1965 or farther if possible.
Off to the bank, post office, gas station and probably grocery store in a bit.

Got two rolls of quarters this morning. Got a 65, 70 and some others and a few state and park quarters. Three rolls of dimes up next.

BMann, I've not noticed a pattern. Finding a silver coin in a teller tray appears totally random to me.

I have noticed that Wednesday and Thursday have given more opportunities. My area is infested with other hunters so I am trying to figure out how to beat them to the punch. Like going teller tray hunting during my lunch break on a Wednesday or Thursday. It's exhausting though.

Dimes and 1 roll of nickels yielded nothing.
Two penny rolls either next or in the morning.

Just to be clear, the "Federal Credit Union" is not the "Federal Reserve" and neither is a government organization. There is no Federal Reserve branch that you can go to. They only deal with banks, credit unions, and transport companies (Brinks and such) and other very large cash and coin services.
Glad you are getting into the crh habit with us! Good hunting!

I always found Monday to be the best day. Friday people would deposit either personal coinage to make beer runs for their weekend or business would make deposits from the week. I found Tuesday Wednesday are bad since all coin hunters are out on Mondays, Thursday then Friday build up.

So hit the banks Friday afternoon and first thing Monday morning. Seasonally, I found January through February as kids who got half dollars for Christmas deposit them. Then around September and October as school starts up and people are using change for student lunches.

Other strategy, highly commercial area banks have almost always been a dud for me, it's the outlying suburban banks that I have always found silver. I think part of it is the amount of traffic and ease of knocking off three-four bank branches in quick order. Also, this sounds bad, but banks in low income urban areas sometimes have been successful.

And lastly, Coin hunters, as you make friends with tellers make a cheap business card on a printer and leave it with them so they can call you when the coins come in. I've cut down those searches where nothing exists by casting a card with my name and number with a picture of a half dollar on the card. If they call, bring them cookies or something.

    Happy Hunting!
