Hello all. I just finished searching through some junk silver I saved from some bags myself and a freind bought and I found these. (PICS) A 1916-d and 1921-d merc. The d is real faint on the 16 and my scanner sucks so it may be hard to tell, but I am ecstatic. Gonna go see my dealer and get an opinion. Thanks for reading. Ryan EDIT: As I suspected the scans suck. Unfortunartely, I have no camera to take better pics. Sorry. Ryan
I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I strongly doubt that it is a genuine 16-d. Your scans are good enough for me to see the D on the 21-d, but I see nothing on the 16-P that would make me think it was made in Denver. The MM on the 16 D was very strongly punched on each of the 4 dies and is plainly visible on them even after the date has worn off. If it appears to have a "weak d" then the most likely explanation is that the D isn't actually there (and you're seeing something else as a d) or the d is not germaine to the coin (i.e. it is an altered coin). I hope I'm wrong, for your sake, but I doubt I am.
