I am bored and want to Read something interesting or something I don't know. Here is the rules. Very simple. Post a picture of your favorite coin from anywhere and anytime. Give us the history on the coin(by history, I mean anything, significant or not) tell us about design changes, and errors, specs/metal content. And also, find something historical that happened the same year that the coin was made. If you feel like it also post the reason why you like the coin so much. I feel like this could get pretty interesting because there are a lot of knowledgeable people on here. Sorry if my response time isn't quick for I will be reading a lot and taking it all in. Thank you for participating and happy hunting If you feel like just telling about a coin I welcome that too. Whatever your hearts desire as long as you post a coin. Doesn't have to be your coin either, could be something you hope to find. Funny posts are welcome too.
I don't know if I would call it my favorite coin but I find this one very interesting. It is the first ever coin struck by a Jewish ruler. If you are looking for a more in depth write up I posted a full essay on it a few months back. It's quite a long post but if your bored and you missed it... https://www.cointalk.com/threads/the-first-jewish-coin-and-its-modern-descendent.292881/
Thanks for the great idea Tyler. So here is my coin from the shipwreck of the Admiral Gardner and a link to some of the history. https://eicships.threedecks.org/ships/s815/s815_index.html
I did read that but I didn't get the whole way through and must have forgot to read the rest but I read it all and that's crazy. So that coin was minted by the ruler himself, must be an awesome coin to have. and thanks a lot for posting
Wow that was a cool read, always dreamed of having sunkin ship treasure haha that's basically what it is to me! Very cool I hope to get a coin from sunkin ships one day!! Thanks for sharing that.
This article of yours was great the first time I read it. I am going to read it again this weekend. I did not go to all the links the first time. It certainly fits all the requirements @Tyler Graton set out. (Unless, of course he knows it or has read it already).
Forgot this link and could not edit onto previous post. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces42953.html
One of the most fascinating coins ever (in my opinion) would be the Brasher Doubloon, check it out here.
"One for all, all for one" After 300 years of French rule, the Canton of Geneva was returned to the Swiss Confederation on September 12, 1814. This medal was designed by Jean Francois Antoine Bovy to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of that event. Chris
Wow. I've seen pictures of this coin but never knew anything about it. Haha the guy even lived next to Washington! I wonder if Washington ever touched this coin or seen it lol Do you have that coin? Man that would be awesome to have that piece of history
I'd be kinda scared to have that coin. I wouldn't be able to tell anyone haha unless I lived in federal reserve
1790 Flanders Token. I would say this is Belgium's first Commemorative, But I may be wrong on that point. This is only info I could find. http://www.coinpeople.com/index.php/topic/23276-bread-instead-of-tokens-affects-rarity/
