Just wondering - What do you all use to store your coins? Albums, 2x2, etc. What have you found to be the best?
Will self-adhesive 2x2's harm the coin? I would imagine they would be safer because of the absense of staples.
I'd worry about some of the chemicals in the glue of the self-adhesive 2x2's. I don't KNOW that there's a problem, but better safe than sorry. I use the type of 2x2's that require staples. And I keep some channel locks handy for crimping the staples. But there are some self-crimping staplers out there. Never tried them so I don't know how good they are. My inexpensive coins go into 2x2's. My sets go into Intercept Shield albums, but only the inexpensive and moderately priced coins. All my expensive coins are in slabs and that's where they'll stay. Inexpensive/Moderate/Expensive are strictly your definition. BTW, a comment on safes. It looks like the insurance company mentioned by the better TPGs requires that the safe be at least a Class B (2 hour) safe. A Class C (1 hour) safe is NOT sufficient. They ain't cheap. A new night table sized safe will be $500-1000.
I just started putting some of my less valuable coins in self-adhesive 2x2's, mainly because I really don't like the stapled look. I'll keep you posted if I have any adverse reaction with my coins.
i hope you don't have any adverse reaction. but i have heard of people being nervous using them because of the adhesive possibly 'fumin' the coin. i use the staple type mylar and i use the stapler that is suggested for these sold at www.brent-krueger.com the staples don't protrude like the other staplers that may scratch the other 2x2's when stored in a box. grizz
