I went out to eat with my family at a really nice hole-in-the-wall place, and right as we arrived, we saw a truck with a bumper sticker advertising a trip to dig up dinosaurs. As we were getting out of the car, we met the family who owned the truck, and apparently they own a company that does paleontology tours. We started talking, and we found out that the father was a professor at the University of North Georgia, and that he collected coins. His specialty is imperial Romans, but he told me that he has 50,000 unattributed Chinese coins that he would like me to go through!

    Should be fun!

Wow! What an amazing and fun opportunity for you!

I'd be on board for one of their paleontology tours :)

Big FUN! Would enjoy the tour... and would enjoy sitting in the background learning the attributions. Cool!

Very cool :) I bring up coins whenever I can in conversation just to see what pops up. Sometimes something cool, sometimes nothing. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I would like to learn how to clean/preserve coins and other small metal artifacts. I've seen some methods on videos I've had the chance to see; but, that is not the same as doing!

Cool opportunity. I don't know Jack about Chineese coins but always up to learn something new.
My oldest son wanted to be a paleontologist. He really had a love for fossils.

My eldest wanted to be archaeologist when he was young. Ended up being an English teacher and writer. Big difference. What does your son do now?

I bet @Sallent could help put a dent in the attribution of those Chinese coins. He knows an awful lot about them.

LOL, @TypeCoin971793 is my Chinese coin guru. I am not capable of outshining the master. This grasshopper still has a lot of hopping to do before he is confident enough to leave his master's shadow.

It would be interesting to know how many different types there are in 50,000 and how many examples of the most common one there are.

I specialize in ancient Chinese, and I have been collecting them for six years. I would hope I know a thing or two...

I lost both my kids several years ago. Auto accident, I wasn't there when it happened.

Sounds like my kind of people. I'm in GA, too, albeit on the southern end.

I highly recommend you speak to @SuperDave @BadThad and/or @desertgem they have the most working knowledge (of folks on here that I know) on coin preservation.
